COOKING CLASS AND THE ROYAL KHMER CUISINE TOUR

Traditional Khmer Cuisine is one of detail – small amounts of ingredients with intriguing textures, complex aromas and fresh exhilarating flavors create distinctly light, delicate and healthy cuisine. Rice is nearly a sacred component of Khmer Culture, along with fish and shellfish, both fresh from Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers.

Start 10.00 am

The participants will be welcomed with fresh Cambodian herb drink at the Conservatory and discuss with the chef the program.

10.20 am

The groups will take tour to Siem Reap morning market. Our chef will advise the group and guide in discovering the Cambodian fruits, vegetables, fishes without forgetting the multi color spices and herbs.

11.00 am

Arrival back in the hotel where refreshing drinks and cold towels are waiting for you. Let’s move on to the theory class!

COOKING CLASS AND THE ROYAL KHMER CUISINE TOUR

11.15 am

Theory class: The instructor explains the ingredients used for cooking; including a demonstration of the dishes that you will prepare. Each participant receives a cooking book with recipes of the most favorite dishes in Royal Khmer Cuisine as well as a white memorable apron with Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor logo.

11.30 am

Time to put your hands on cooking utensils: each student has his/her own table and stove. Assisted by our chef, you will learn and experience the culinary technique of Royal Khmer Cuisine including appetizer, soup, main courses and dessert; which six dishes in total.

12.30 am

Lunch time: Now you can taste and enjoy your own culinary discovery. The waiter will serve the food, course by course, accompanied with a glass of our house wine at your table

PHNOM PENH DAILY COOKING CLASSES

On this course you choose within your group which meal you would like to cook. Once a decision has been made you will be taken to the market where you will purchase your ingredients and will learn everything there is about Cambodian vegetables, herbs and spices. You will then return to the school to cook and to enjoy your culinary creations on the breezy rooftop terrace. (In the 4 hour course you get to choose 2 dishes and in the 8 hour course you cook the whole course menu)

This is a typical schedule of a 1-day course at our Cooking School in Phnom Penh.Of course we can adjust this schedule to your needs.Just let us now at the time of booking.We also have half day courses, but for a minimum of two participants only.

COOKING SCHOOL IN PHNOM PENH

11:00 am

Time to put your hands on the cooking utensils. The open-air roofed cooking school provides for a cool breeze, while you are cooking. Each student has his own cooking station and wok. Assisted by our instructor you will learn and experience the culinary technique of Cambodian cuisine. For lunch, two not too difficult dishes are waiting to be prepared by you!

One Day Cooking Tour in Phnom Penh

12:30 pm

Lunch. Now you can taste and enjoy your own culinary creation.

13:30 pm

Time to put your hands on the cooking utensils again. In the afternoon we teach you how to make dishes that take some more time to prepare, plus a dessert.

15:00 pm

While the dessert is cooling down, we give you a demonstration of basic fruit and vegetable carving for decoration.

15:30 pm

Time to taste and enjoy your own culinary creation and relax while again enjoying the view from our terrace.

Upon arrival in Siem Reap airport, our guide & driver transfer directly for the visits:
AM: Visit the antique capital of Angkor Thom (12 century) : the South Gate with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, the Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara, the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Lunch not included
PM: Visit the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor: Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture.

Buffet Dinner and enjoy Khmer Traditional Dance Show at local restaurant and accommodation at hotel.

Angkor Watt Temple - Apsara Dance Show

AM: Visit to Ta Prohm, one of the area’s most beautiful temples. Ta Prohm has been relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery. Neak Pean, a fountain built in the middle of a pool (representing the paradisiacal Himalayan Angkor Watmountain-lake), Ta Som, built in late 12th century C.E. the most distant temple on the grand circuit, small but classic. Preah Khan temple, Built by the King Jayavarman VII. Preah Khan is, like Ta Prohm, a place of towered enclosures and shoulder hugging corridors. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, the temple of Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain and even improve this situation. Lunch not included.
PM: Visit to the unique interior brick sculptures of Prasat Kravan, Srah Srang ("The Royal Baths" was once used for ritual bathing), Banteay Kdei (surrounded by 4 concentric walls), , Ta Keo, constructed in late 10th early 11th century C.E, the first temple to be constructed wholly of sandstone.
